The Persian Empire

The Persians are generally classed as the "enemy" of Sparta and Ancient Greece, but is this correct ?

This sounds like a stupid question doesn´t it ?

We all know about the Battle of Marathon, Thermopylae etc, but how many are aware of the fact that Sparta required Persian help to win the Pelopponesian War ?

How did this sudden change come about?

Why did Persia agree to help such a bitter enemy ?

This section will look into all of these points but will also attempt to answer the most important question - a question which has rarely been properly answered and as a result, the Persian Empire is more than often misunderstood.

Who were the Persians ?

A Persian immortal, the Persian Royal elite guard.

Cyrus the Great, Darius, Xerxes, all familiar names to students of Ancient Greek history. Perhaps the three best known Persians in Ancient history, but who were

The Achaemenids ?

The Parthians ?

The Sassanians ?

The Medes ?

A person could spend years reaserching the subject.

Spartan World has been proud to accept the support of Dr. Kaveh Farrokh, one of the leading experts in Ancient Persian history.

Dr. Farrokh has agreed to monitor the Persian section, on a purely informal basis, to ensure that Spartan World will maintain its high standard of accuracy and authenticity when referring to the Persian Empire.
